As an international student, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection requires all student visa holders maintain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the entire duration of their stay in Australia; unless the student is coming from a country that have a reciprocal health care agreement with Australia.
OSHC is purchased either by your education provider or you can choose your own OSHC approved provider and pay the insurance yourself. It’s important that regardless of who purchases it, that you maintain continuous coverage for the entire stay in Australia.  Your OSHC must be arranged before departure for Australia and covers you from the moment you arrive.
